Violence against Women and Girls Hurts Everyone and Diminishes Us All

On International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women—November 25—Caritas Cyprus joined UNHCR and many of its other valued local partners in issuing a statement calling for the eradication of violence against women and girls, noting that migrant women are at particular risk. The Platform on Protecting Refugee and Asylum-Seeking Women from Violence kicked-off this year’s campaign, “16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence” with the statement and a short video clip featuring a variety of local faces.

International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and Girls and the 16-Day Campaign that follows are dedicated to raising awareness, expressing solidarity and instigating action against gender-based violence. This year’s theme, “Invest to Prevent Violence against Women & Girls,” underscores the critical need to finance diverse prevention strategies to eliminate violence at its roots. Comprehensive efforts are required to tackle gender inequalities, harmful social norms, and the needs of displaced populations.
