Vymata: Empowering Women Through Creativity and Sustainable Fashion

Caritas Cyprus is proud to support Vymata, a migrant women-led social enterprise based in Nicosia, which has been highlighted in an October 2026 report on women’s empowerment by Caritas’ Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa (MONA). The Vymata initiative demonstrates how creativity, vocational training and social entrepreneurship can contribute to women’s empowerment and social inclusion, while creating opportunities for greater economic independence.

Through sewing, design and sustainable fashion, Vymata provides migrant and vulnerable women with opportunities to develop practical skills, build confidence and explore new pathways towards sustainable livelihoods. To date, more than 30 women have taken part in Vymata’s sewing, design and skills-development activities, which also provide a space for cultural exchange, mutual support and community-building.

Caritas Cyprus is also supporting the development of ReImagined Remnants, Vymata’s sustainable, Cyprus-centric collection, which gives new life to discarded textiles, surplus fabrics and donated garments. The initiative places women at the heart of the creative process, recognising them not only as beneficiaries but also as makers, designers and contributors to a growing social enterprise.

Through its involvement, Caritas Cyprus is committed to supporting initiatives that promote women’s skills, potential and active participation in society.
