On Monday, February 6, a powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquake rocked southeastern Turkey and northern Syria, toppling hundreds of buildings and killing more than 5,000 people at latest count. Like the earthquake itself, the tragic aftermath is being felt across the region as rescue efforts are underway to pull survivors from the rubble and tend to their needs in inclement weather. Caritas Syria and Caritas Turkey immediately lent their support to the affected population who remain vulnerable and at risk in two areas where the humanitarian situation was already fragile. To contribute to these efforts and help those in need, please donate to the Caritas Internationalis appeal for the earthquake-affected people in Syria and Turkey.
