Celebrating the United Action Against Human Trafficking Project

On the occasion of EU Anti-Trafficking Day 2025, Caritas Cyprus and the Refugee Rights Association came together to mark the closing of the United Action Against Human Trafficking (UAAHT) project — a multi-year initiative dedicated to strengthening cooperation and improving responses to human trafficking across the divided island.

Since its launch, UAAHT—funded by the European Union—has worked to increase interaction and dialogue among stakeholders from both communities in Cyprus, with the shared goal of improving anti-trafficking efforts and support for victims and survivors. The project also sought to build constituencies for change—individuals and groups willing to hold duty bearers accountable and to advocate for coordinated, humane, and effective action.

Over the past three years, the project has operated on multiple fronts:

  • Raising awareness among potential victims, educators, and the general public about the realities of trafficking and exploitation.
  • Improving the capacity of organizations, professionals, and frontline workers to identify, support, and empower survivors.
  • Shedding light on existing frameworks, identifying what works and where gaps remain.
  • Building an island-wide network of experts, organizations, influencers, researchers, and advocates committed to countering the fragmented systems that allow traffickers to operate with impunity.

The UAAHT project has demonstrated that while Cyprus may be divided, the shared commitment to protect human dignity can bring people together. Collaboration, dialogue, and coordinated action are essential—not only to disrupt trafficking networks but also to create safer, more just communities for all.

Together, we are stronger against trafficking.
