Across Europe and in Cyprus, 1 in 5 people still experience poverty or social exclusion with women more at risk than men.

Poverty is not only about income — it’s about being excluded, silenced, or made to feel invisible.

October 17 is International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. Caritas Europa highlights the story of Alex which reminds us that when people are heard and treated with dignity, change becomes possible.

To truly eradicate poverty, Europe needs a rights-based, comprehensive anti-poverty strategy. One that listens, acts and ensures no one is left behind.

For its part, Caritas Cyprus responds to the needs of vulnerable people experiencing poverty and provides support in accessing life-sustaining services and humanitarian aid through its Stoa Humanitarian Point in Nicosia and parish initiatives across the island.
