Cooperative effort is necessary to achieve any significant task. Alleviating hunger in our community is no exception. Caritas Cyprus is thankful to be the conduit for many small but significant food donations that help those in need. In 2024, for example, Eftyhia Psistaria and Take Away (45 October 28th Street, Makedonitissa) donated over 650 portions of cooked food that were especially helpful to those without a pot or kitchen to cook in. Schools—most recently the French-Cypriot School—stock the shelves of our Stoa humanitarian point with cereals, rice, pasta and beans that can be given out in food bags over time. One-off donations of chocolate wafer bars from Laiko Cosmos Trading provided a rare treat for Valentine’s Day this year and fresh produce from Lidl Cyprus has given families who cannot usually afford them nutritious fruit and vegetables. Small acts of generosity and solidarity can add up—after all, it takes a village!
