Across Europe, women still face barriers — from lower pay to fewer leadership opportunities. Globally, they are disproportionately affected by poverty, conflict, climate change and violence.
At Caritas, we are committed to changing this. Gender equality is a clear priority. Through our policies and programs, we strive to empower women across our network and within the communities we serve.
This International Women’s Day, Caritas Cyprus supported a local initiative committed to social inclusion and community building through sport. On Sunday, March 8, Sport Vision Cyprus organized an event to promote unity, integration and community development through women-centered football, handball, tug-of-war and running activities. This was a rare opportunity in Cyprus where many refugee, asylum-seeker and migrant women in particular struggle with exclusion and search for a sense of belonging.

Women are at the heart of Caritas’ mission, leading, supporting and driving change every day.
