From 3 to 6 August 2025, a group of young volunteers from Caritas Cyprus visited Cerignola (Foggia, Puglia, Italy) as part of the growing twinning initiative between Caritas Cyprus and Caritas Puglia. The visit followed their participation in the Youth Jubilee in Rome and took place within the framework of the summer programme “La meglio gioventù – A Summer of Commitment, Participation and Service”, promoted by Caritas Cerignola–Ascoli Satriano.
The initiative focused on overcoming cultural divides through nonviolent dialogue and mutual exchange. During their stay, the Cypriot youth engaged in moments of encounter and service alongside Italian Civil Service volunteers, visited Caritas centers in Foggia, Manfredonia, and San Severo, and learned more about local efforts in areas such as migration, community outreach, and social justice.
In the words of Father Antoine Succar, the parish priest of the Maronite Cathedral of Panayia ton Chariton in Nicosia who accompanied the group, the visit was a valuable opportunity for young people from Cyprus to experience Caritas “in action” in Puglia and to strengthen their commitment to solidarity back home, inspired by their Italian peers.
