Partnership with MAM Beyond Borders Provides Care to Mothers and Babies

Being pregnant, having a baby, breastfeeding and taking care of children can be hard. This is especially true for migrant women who are often far from home, unable to speak the language of their host community and lack support networks on which to rely. Experienced midwives and nurses can offer invaluable support simply by answering questions and providing encouragement.

Through a partnership with MAM Beyond Borders of Italy, Caritas Cyprus organized two days of one-on-one sessions for pregnant women, mothers and new families at the Caritas Center in Nicosia. “It was helpful to talk to someone who understands what I am going through,” shared Fatima*, the refugee mother of a growing 3-month-old boy.

The visit by MAM Beyond Borders’ volunteers was a valued opportunity to focus on the wellbeing of women with obstetric needs and newborn babies. It was also a valuable example of solidarity between civil society organizations supporting vulnerable groups in Europe through access to informal health education.
