On October 18, Europe observes EU Anti-Trafficking Day to honor those who have been victims of this horrible crime and to increase awareness of and progress in the fight against it. Around the date each year, events are held all across the European Union to raise awareness, foster dialogue, and provide an opportunity to advance significant commitments and legislation on this topic. In Nicosia, Caritas Cyprus joined representatives of various government services and organizations in welcoming the launch of the Social Welfare Service’s new unit dedicated to assisting victims of trafficking. The important role that NGOs play in supporting survivors was highlighted in the remarks of the Permanent Secretary and Caritas Cyprus’ strong working relationship with the Social Welfare Services was acknowledged specifically by the Director in his introduction.
