To adjust and progress, migrant women need access to information, services and training tailored to their needs as newcomers to Cypriot society. Becoming self-reliant and able to provide for a family requires the acquisition of new skills—especially language—and familiarity with local resources and realities.
Caritas Cyprus strives to address these needs by openly contributing to projects targeting migrant women and other marginalized groups. Most recently, it participated in an event organized by the Synthesis Center for Research and Education as part of the EU-funded ‘Together We Can’ project. At the ‘Spin the Clock, Find Your Spot’ mentoring session on November 8, 2024, Executive Manager Elizabeth Kassinis noted that Caritas Cyprus provides different services through its Center, STOA Humanitarian Point and online. She emphasized how Caritas Cyprus’ focus is on providing knowledge that empowers and facilitates access. “We try to meet people where they are and accompany them on a few steps towards self-sufficiency as best we can,” she said. To illustrate, she demonstrated the new CARITASCYPRUS.COM blog site designed to be informal, informative and easy-to-use on all devices. “Critical information on the long path to inclusion, independence and integration should only be a few clicks away, make sense and available to all.” From the audience, she invited feedback and suggestions to ensure that Caritas Cyprus is responsive and improves as it goes.
